A collaboration with Sri Lanka Life Saving
Carbonix has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Sri Lanka Life Saving to explore and develop collaborative initiatives involving disaster preparedness, community safety, education, youth engagement and capacity building.
The proposed approach will connect technical systems with institutional coordination and community action. It will seek to ensure that warnings are not only generated but are communicated clearly, reach vulnerable communities in time and lead to effective action.

Carbonix will seek to work with relevant government institutions, universities, schools, NGOs, community organisations, public-health specialists and technology providers. The long-term objective is to develop an effective Sri Lankan model that can be responsibly adapted for other Commonwealth and emerging-market countries.
Lessons from Cyclone Ditwah
Why Climate Action Cannot Wait
Cyclone Ditwah, which affected Sri Lanka in November 2025, demonstrated the country’s exposure to increasingly severe climate-related hazards.
UNDP analysis estimated that flooding covered approximately 1.1 million hectares—nearly one-fifth of Sri Lanka’s land area—and exposed about 2.3 million people. The World Bank estimated approximately US$4.1 billion in direct physical damage, equivalent to around 4% of Sri Lanka’s GDP.
The cyclone, together with subsequent flooding and continuing flood risks, demonstrates the need to move beyond responding to individual emergencies. Long-term investment is required in preparedness, early warning, institutional coordination, community awareness and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Carbonix seeks to support this transition by connecting technology and data with institutional capacity and community-level action. Particular attention will be given to last-mile communication so that warnings reach vulnerable communities in an understandable and timely form and are linked to clear guidance, evacuation arrangements and coordinated local action.
The lessons from Cyclone Ditwah can help inform a practical disaster-resilience model for Sri Lanka that may subsequently be evaluated, strengthened and appropriately adapted for other climate-vulnerable countries.
